RECOMMENDED ACTION: POL TRAVEL OUT OF STATE Authorize Police Service Aid Patti Wehling to travel to attend the Coordinatc Community Response Training in Duluth, Minnesota from February 26 through Marc 3, 1995. ITEM EXPLANATION: PSA Patti Wehling is enrolled in the United States Marine Corps’ “Coordinatc Community Response Training.” This training is to unite and train members of tt community’s law enforcement agencies, social services, judges, and Marine CorF Family Programs Branch in spousal abuse inteluention. Division SUBJECT: Training in Duluth, Minnesota for PSA Wehling Please consider this a formal request to aOlow PSA Wehling to attend tt special domestic violence training session in Duluth, Minnesota. As you know, this training is being made available through a special military program and will not incur transportation or lodging costs for the city. The military is providing this training event in order to establish a community coordinated response to domestic violence. The training wil specialize in domestic violence and will include such topics as intervention, victim advocacy, case assessments, and victim services. 1 training will take place during the period of February 26 through March 1995. Attending the training will be criminal justice representatives February 7, 1995 including judges and deputy district attorneys, In reviewing the request for training it is requested that you consider t following: 1. Our domestic violence investigative efforts have expanded greatly in the last year and we have added a police service aide (Patti Wehling) to work domestic violence follow-up. Training to this date has been extremely limited and is crucial to effective functioning in this positio This training will meet that need. 2. The training will enhance interagency efforts among north county representatives and help us become an effective part of this group. 3. The training will broaden our understanding of how to handle DV participants in a community coordinated response, including those who active duty military. In summary, this is cost-effective, comprehensive, and current trainins which would improve our current domestic violence response efforts.
