UF L'AHLSBAU - Aiit-4 BILL 2 eJ RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. Ci 5-59 committing to future funding of Phase II (constru auxiliary lanes on Interstate 5 and La Costa Avenue), when traffic volume warrants z ITEM EXPLANATION: Plans, specifications and estimates (P.S.&E.) for the widening of the La Costa Avet 1-5 bridge are being processed by Caltrans in the final stages and the Project Re be finalized soon. As a requirement for the Project Report, Caltrans has reques the City of Carlsbad make commitments to fund Phase II of the project when traffic warrants are met. At the inception of this project, Caltrans requested that I construct north and southbound auxiliary lanes on 1-5 as a part of the bridge \n project. Staff successfully argued against the construction of the auxiliary lar secured Caltrans' agreement to call this portion of work Phase II and defer the cons to later years if, and when, traffic volume warrants are met. FISCAL IMPACT: The phase I1 ( auxiliary lane) construction costs are estimated at $1.5 million anc constructed in later years if, and when, traffic volume warrants are met. EXHIBITS: 1. RESOLUTION NO. 9 5 - 5 9 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, COMMITTING FUTURE CITY FUNDING FOR PHASE II OF THE LA COSTA AVENUE INTERCHANGE, PROJECT NO. 321 9. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad hereby finds it necessary, and in the public interest to widen the La Costa Avenue and 1-5 Interchange; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad hereby finds it I desirable and in the public interest that Carlsbad make a commitment to fund Phase lanes) of the La Costa Avenue & 1-5 Interchange project if, and when, the traffic volumc are met. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the Crty of California, as follows: 1. 2. That the above recitations are true and correct.
