ITEM EXPLANATION
Type Ill Modular Ambulances are utilized by fire department paramedics to provide e
medical treatment and transport sewices The department 6~~~~tisS three amt)U\anCeS, w(
units and one reserve unit. Ambulances are rotated from front-line to reserve base

The ambulance being recommended for replacement has been in front-line service since
1990 and its mileage, as of July 1, 1995, was 79,900 miles. Administrative Order
Management Program" contains guidelines for the replacement of all vehicles in the city flel
and mileage guidelines for ambulances are four years and 80,000 miles. Since front-line a1
average 1500 miles per month, by the time this unit is taken out of service, it will have bee-
for over five years and will have been driven approximately 90,000 miles, exceeding both c
mentioned guidelines.
Replacement of our entire ambulance fleet normally occurs over a three to five year pel

Resolution No. 95-122, dated May 16, 1995, accepting the proposal of Leader Industries,
purchase of two type 111 modular ambulances, contained a public agency clause. This cl
any public agency in California to purchase the identical equipment for the original cost c
proposal. We will exercise the option for the purchase this vehicle.
FISCAL IMPACT
The total cost for the vehicle is $1 00,893.51 including tax. This is the same unit price as
two units before trade in values were deducted. Funds are available in the Vehicle I
Capital Outlay Account for the purchase of this vehicle.
