Canyon High School, Project No. 3496. 1 ITEM EXPLANATION:
On November 14, 1995, the City Council approved the plans and specificat
Project No. 3496 and directed the City Clerk to advertise for construction bic
March 14, 1996, the following seven (7) sealed bids were received:
1. MCR Electrical Contractors
2. Select Electric
3. Lekos Electric
4. Knox Electric
5. TDS Engineering
6. De La Cruz Construction

Bids have been reviewed and analyzed. The lowest responsible bidder is MCR E
Contractors, Inc., which submitted a bid of $69,490. Staff recommends awarl
contract to MCR Electrical Contractors.
The signal must be in operation before the start of the new school year in Sei
Construction is estimated to begin in early July 1996. The actual start date will dE
the delively date of the signal equipment from the manufacturer. Once
construction is expected to be completed in less than thirty (30) working days.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
This project is categorically exempt from the requirements of the California Envirc P Quality Ad: (CEQA) and a Notice of Exemption was filed by the Planning Directc hll g

FISCAL IMPACT:
To date, total expenditures for this project have been $2,020. The estimatec
complete this project is:

Per an agreement between the City of Carlsbad, San Dieguito Union High School
and Douglas E. Barnhart, Inc., approved by the City Council on November 14, 1s
City shall receive $45,000 from Douglas E. Barnhart for the construction of the traffic
Therefore, the City's estimated cost to construct the traffic signal will be:
$79,913
$34,913
- 45,000
Funds in the amount of $103,900 are available for Project No. 3496.
Estimated annual electrical and maintenance costs for this signal is $5,000.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TH€ CIM OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, AWARDING A CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF
A TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT THE ENTRANCE TO IA COSTA CANYON HIGH
SCHOOL ON CAMINO DE LOS COCHES, PROJECT NO, 3496,
5 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad has determined it

desirable, and in the public interest to award a contract for the construction of a tra

the entrance to La Costa Canyon High School on Camino de 10s Coches; and
WHEREAS, seven (7) sealed bids were received on March 14, 1996 for the

WHEREAS, the lowest responsive, responsible bid for the project was SI
MCR Electrical Contractors, Inc., in the amount of $69,490.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City (
California, as follows:
14 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
15 2. That the low bid submitted by MCR Electrical Contractors, Inc., in thc
16 $69,490 is hereby accepted and the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute a contrz
17 of the City for the construction of said traffic signal.
18 PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad
