ITEM EXPLANATION:
The 1996 Carlsbad Triathlon and Luau Festival was held the weekend of July 13, 14, 1996. The 2nd Annual
Festival on Saturday attracted an estimated 7,000 participants and had expanded activities for families and a
including: a surf exhibition, kayak lessons, a sand castle demonstration and contest and a children's fun ru~
Triathlon race attracted approximately 1,000 athletes with an estimated 5,000 spectators in attendance.
During the September meeting, the Parks and Recreation Commission received these donations and unanim
recommended acceptance by the City Council. Letters of appreciation have been sent out to all parties from
Community Services Department.
The following businessedorganizations have offered donations of products or in-kind services in support of
Carlsbad Triathlon and Luau Festival:

FISCAL IMPACT:
Twenty nine thousand seven hundred fifty ($29,750) dollars in products and in-kind services were utilized 1
refreshments, prizes and advertisement for the Triathlon and Luau Festival. All donations offset the cost tc
providing for these special events and contribute to the popularity of this activity.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TEE
CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING
DONATIONS OF MERCHANDISE, AND IN KIND
SERVICES VALUING A TOTAL OF TWENTY NINE
THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY
($29,750) DOLLARS IN SUPPORT OF THE
CARLSBAD TRIATHLON AND LUAU FESTIVAL.
WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad has received donations of merchandise and
in-kind services valuing a total of twenty nine thousand seven hundred fifty ($29,750)
dollars in support of the 1996 Carlsbad Triathlon and Luau Festival; and
WHEREAS, these donations have contributed to offsetting the City's cost of
providing this special event and also contributed to the overall success and enjoyment
of this program by the participants; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to acknowledge the generosity and
support of community vendors who have contributed to this special event; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept these donations;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the Citl
of Carlsbad, California, as follows:
- 1. The above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council does hereby accept the merchandise, and in-
kind service donations, a copy of which is attached hereto and ma(
part of.
