RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Introduce Ordinance No. A’s- 3q 5 to establish Washington Street as a one-wz
between Grand Avenue and Beech Avenue. I ITEM EXPLANATION:
Several years ago, improvements to Washington Street between Grand Avenue and Beect
were completed as part of the Transit Center Project in the Village. The design plans
Washington Street as a one-way street between Grand Avenue and Beech Avenue a
approved by the City Council and the Housing and Redevelopment Commission.
The road has been constructed as a one-way street with proper signing in place. Washington Street operates as a one-way street, in a northerly direction, it has never been
designated as a one-way street by an ordinance adopted by the City Council.
In response to an inquiry to the City Attorney‘s Office by the Carlsbad Police Department re!
contested citation written on this one-way street, Engineering Department staff was i
prepare the ordinance establishing Washington Street as a one-way street between Granc
and Beech Avenue.

No fiscal impact. Signing and striping has previously been installed.

ORDINANCE NO. NS,-395
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING TITLE IO, CHAPTER 10.24, OF
THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL CODE BY THE ADDITION OF SECTION
10.24.021 TO ESTABLISH A ONE-WAY STREET ON WASHINGTON
STREET FROM GRAND AVENUE TO BEECH AVENUE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, hereby ord;
follows:
SECTION I: That Title IO, Chapter 10.24 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code is ar
by the addition of Section 10.24.021 to read as follows:
“10.24.021 Washinqton Street:
In accordance with Section 10.24.010, and when proper signs are
in place, all traffic shall proceed only in a northerly direction on
Washington Street from Grand Avenue to its intersection with
Beech Avenue.’’
EFFECTIVE DATE: This ordinance shall be effective thirty (30) days after its at
