RECOMMENDED ACTION:
q744 9 Adopt Resolution No. accepting a $17,200 Arts Education Partnership Grant from tl California Arts Council.
ITEM EXPLANATION The Arts Education Partnership Grant provides funding which allows the Arts Office to wo in partnership with the Carlsbad Unified School District to develop and implement a long- range plan for schooVcommunity arts education. In 1996/97, the Arts OfficelSchool Oistrid
partnership won first-year funding to begin the planning process. A SchoollCommunity
Steering Committee provides direction for the plan. The 1997/98 grant award is the seconc year of funding for implementation of the long range plans developed by the Steering Committee. This grant is renewable for a third and final year in 1998/99.
The grant fulfills the 1997/98 City Council Goals to actively pursue the contribution of func and provide quality programs and encourage opportunities through partnerships with schools.
FISCAL IMPACT
The Arts Education Partnership grant requires matching funds of $20,000 which will be matched by the Carlsbad Unified School District.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING AN ARTS EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP GRANT FROM THE CALIFORNIA ARTS COUNCIL
WHEREAS, City Council goals include,”to provide quality cultural programs 1
Carlsbad residents,’’ and to “Encourage opportunities through partnerships with school
and to “pursue the contribution of funds”, and;
WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Unified School District and the Carlsbad Arts Office I
worked collaboratively since 1986, and;
WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Arts Office received the arts education first year plan
grant in 1996 to develop a long-range arts education plan; and
WHEREAS, the 1997/98 arts education grant has been awarded to implemen
plan and;
WHEREAS, matching funds for this grant will be matched by the Carlsbad Un
School District.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the Cit
Carlsbad, as follows:
1. That the above recitations areZrue and correct. 2. That the $1 7,200 Arts Education Partnership Grant from the California An Council is hereby accepted.
3. That the grant money is hereby appropriated into account number 1894C for the uses described herein.

taken by the Board of Trustees of the Carlsbad Unified School District a a Regular Meeting of the Board held on April 23, 1997, with all member present:
It was moved by Trustee Packard, seconded by Trustee Schlehuber, that the Board of Trustees approve the Grant Application to the California Arts Council Local Arts Education Partnership Program, with the requirement of matching funds by the District.
