Adopt Resolution No. “I ‘?- 7c31 amending the Salary Schedule effective the pay period
inclusive of December 1, 1997 for classifications represented by the Carlsbad Firefighters’
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On March 4, 1997, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 97-79 approving a Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) with the Carlsbad Firefighters’ Association (CFA). The term of the
MOU is two (2) years and will expire on December 3 1, 1998.
The terms of the MOU with CFA call for a 2% wage increase for all Fire Engineers and a 3%
wage increase for all Fire Captains effective the pay period inclusive of December 1, 1997.
Therefore, attached is the revised salary schedule for classifications represented by the
Carlsbad Firefighters’ Association.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of salary adjustments and related benefits is estimated at $45,380. These funds have
been included in the 1997/98 Fire Department operating budget.

RESOLUTION NO. 97-701
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIAy APPROVING A
REVISED SALARY SCHEDULE FOR CLASSIFICATIONS
REPRESENTED BY THE CARLSBAD FIREFIGHTERSy
ASSOCIATION.
WHEREAS, representatives of management and the Carlsbad Firefighters’
Association conducted negotiations pursuant to the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act regarding
wages and other terms and conditions of employment; and
WHEREAS, said representatives reached agreement and submitted the
Memorandum of Understanding in March 1997 to the City Council which was approved;
and
WHEREAS, the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding call for 2% wage
increase for all Fire Engineers and a 3% wage increase for all Fire Captains increase
effective the pay period inclusive of December 1, 1997; and
WHEREAS, funds for this salary adjustment are available and have been included
in the Fire Department operating budget for Fiscal Year 1997198.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
