RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 99 -la‘ amending the Salary Schedule effective the pay period
inclusive of January 1, 1998 for classifications represented by the Carlsbad Firefighters’
Association.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On March 4, 1997, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 97-79 approving a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Carlsbad Firefighters’ Association (CFA).
The term of the MOU is two (2) years and will expire on December 3 1,1998.
The terms of the MOU with CFA call for a 2% general wage increase effective the pay
period inclusive of January 1, 1998. Therefore, attached is the revised salary schedule for
classifications represented by the Carlsbad Firefighters’ Association.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of salary adjustments and related benefits is estimated at $85,000. These funds
have been included in the 1997198 Fire Department operating budget.

RESOLUTION NO. 97-721
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING A
REVISED SALARY SCHEDULE FOR CLASSIFICATIONS
REPRESENTED BY THE CARLSBAD FIREFIGHTERS’
AS SOCIATION.
WHEREAS, representatives of management and the Carlsbad Firefighters’
Association conducted negotiations pursuant to the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act regarding
wages and other terms and conditions of employment; and
WHEREAS, said representatives reached agreement and submitted the
Memorandum of Understanding in March 1997 to the City Council which was approved;
and
WHEREAS, the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding call for a 2%
general wage increase effective the pay period inclusive of January 1, 1998; and
WHEREAS, funds for this salary adjustment are available and have been included
in the Fire Department operating budget for Fiscal Year 1997198.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

2. That the Fire Department Salary Schedule set forth in Exhibit A, attached
hereto and made a part thereof, is adopted.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad
City Council held on the 16th day of December , 1997, by the following
vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Finnila, Nygaard, Kulchin, and Hall
