RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 98 6 approving plans and specifications and authorizing the Ci
to advertise for bids for the construction of Cannon Road Widening from Interstate 5 to Pa:
Norte, Project No. 3437.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Staff recommends approval of the plans and specifications to widen Cannon Road from lnterst
Paso Del Norte. Features of the widening include the addition of one lane from Paseo Del !
Interstate 5 that will turn directly onto the northbound on-ramp of Interstate 5 and enhancemer
existing median. This project implements one of the elements in the Team California LEGC
Working Committee Incentive Package.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW:
The Carlsbad Ranch Specific Plan Amendment Environmental Impact Report (EIR 94-01) anal:
proposed improvements to Cannon Road and the Interstate YCannon Road Interchange. The
was certified by the City Council on January 9, 1996. The proposed improvements and arc
impact is consistent with the project analyzed in EIR 94-01. No additional environmental revic
required.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Engineer's Estimate for the construction of this project is $100,000. Sufficient funds
currently available.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING PLANS AND
SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO
ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR THE CANNON ROAD WEST WIDENING
FROM INTERSTATE 5 TO PASEO DEL NORTE, PROJECT NO. 3437.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California has determir
necessary, desirable, and in the public interest to construct the widening of Cannon Road
Interstate 5 to Paseo Del Norte: and
WHEREAS, the City Director of Planning has found that this project was describe(
94-01 is within its scope; AND there will be no significant unmitigable effect, not analyzed tht
AND that therefore this project is within the scope of the prior EIRs; and
WHEREAS, the widening of Cannon Road is a mitigation measure identified in EIR 9,
and
WHEREAS, the plans and specifications for furnishing of all labor, material, t8 /I equipment, transportation and other expenses necessary or incidental for said project have I 11 prepared and are on file in the Engineering Division, Public Works Department of the Ci
