SEWER PIPELINE CLEANING CONTRACT, CMWD

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. %3 - 1 4 approving plans and specifications and authori;
advertise notice inviting bids for the Buena Vista Interceptor Gravity Sewer Pipeline (
Contract, CMWD Project No. 97-1 08, Contract No. 34521 C.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
This project involves cleaning approximately nine thousand five hundred sixty-feet (9
thirty-six-inch (36”) and two thousand seven hundred fifty-feet (2,750’) of forty-two-ir
ductile iron pipe gravity sewer pipeline from the Vista Metering Station to the Bue
Sewage Lift Station and ten thousand three hundred feet (10,300’) of forty-two-
vitrified clay pipe from the Aqua Hedionda Sewage Lift Station to the Encina Water
Control Facility. Exhibit 1 shows the reaches of gravity sewer pipe line. The I

The District has prepared specifications to clean the pipelines by hydraulic balling ai

Council’s approval. Construction is anticipated to require approximately thirty (30)
days from the date of issuance of the Notice to Proceed. Staff recommends appro\i
prGect plans and specifications and requests approval to proceed to bid for the rehE
of the sewage pipelines to improve conveyance system reliability.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The engineer‘s estimate for construction of this project is $100,000. To date, fun( amount of $600,000 have been appropriated in the 1997-98 budget for se
replacements and are available for this project. A summary of costs follows:
The City of Vista owns a percentage of the Buena Vista Interceptor Sewer and will
the cost of this maintenance activity.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, FOR APPROVAL OF PLANS AND
SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE
NOTICE INVITING BIDS FOR BUENA VISTA INTERCEPTOR GRAVITY SEWER PIPELINE CLEANING CONTRACT, CMWD
PROJECT NO 97-1 08 CONTMCT NO. 34521 C
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California,
determined it necessary and in the public interest to approve the plans and specifications
to authorize an advertisement for notice inviting bids for the Buena Vista Interceptor Gr
Sewer Pipeline Cleaning Contract, CMWD Project No. 97-1 08-Contract No. 34521 C; and
WHEREAS, funds appropriated Budget for sewer line cleaning in the am
of $600,000 are available; and
WHEREAS, specifications for Buena Vista Interceptor Gravity Sewer Pipc
Cleaning Contract, CMWD Project No. 97-108, have been prepared by the Carl:
Municipal Water District engineering staff with a cost estimate of $1 00,000, which inch
$20,000 for pre-cleaning television inspection services, and $80,000 for cleaning servi
and are on file in the Engineering Department of the Carlsbad Municipal Water District.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the Cit
Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the specifications and cost estimate of $100,000 submitted by
Carlsbad Municipal Water District engineering staff which are on file with the Carls
Municipal Water District Engineering Department are incorporated herein by reference
are accepted.
