RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 9~496 amending the Salary Schedule effective the pay period
inclusive of June 29, 1998 for classifications represented by the Carlsbad Firefighters’
Association.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On March 4, 1997, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 97-79 approving a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Carlsbad Firefighters’ Association (CFA).
The term of the MOU is two (2) years and will expire on December 3 1, 1998.
The terms of the MOU with CFA call for a 2% general wage increase effective the pay
period inclusive of June 29, 1998. Therefore, attached is the revised salary schedule for
classifications represented by the Carlsbad Firefighters’ Association.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The annual cost of salary adjustments and related benefits is estimated at $ 118,500. for the
proposed FY 1998/99 budget. These funds have been included in the proposed 1998/99
Fire Department operating budget.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING A
REVISED SALARY SCHEDULE FOR CLASSIFICATIONS
REPRESENTED BY THE CARLSBAD FIREFIGHTERS’
ASSOCIATION.
WHEREAS, representatives of management and the Carlsbad Firefighters’
7 Association conducted negotiations pursuant to the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act
a regarding wages and other terms and conditions of employment; and

WHEREAS, said representatives reached agreement and submitted the

Memorandum of Understanding in March 1997 to the City Council which was

approved; and
WHEREAS, the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding call for a 2%
general wage increase effective the pay period inclusive of June 29, 1998; and
WHEREAS, funds for this salary adjustment are available and have been

included in the Fire Department operating budget for Fiscal Year 1997/98.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

2. That the Fire Department Salary Schedule set forth in Exhibit A,
attached hereto and made a part thereof, is adopted.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the
Carlsbad City Council held on the *3rd day of June , 1998, by
the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Finnila, Nygaard and Hall
