OF DONATION

CITY MGR r-~~- RECOMMENDED ACTION: I Adopt Resolution No. 98-286 accepting a $1,000 donation from the James S. Copley
Foundation.
ITEM EXPLANATION
A 2,000 sq. ft. gallery will be included in the new Carlsbad Library. The Gallery will address the
City Council’s educational and cultural goals and implement the goals of the General Plan. A
Gallery Committee was established to develop operational and fund-raising plans, to program
the new Gallery and to oversee the working of the Gallery.
The Committee determined the Gallery should provide a first impression that will enthuse
visitors and trigger their further support. It should communicate to all who attend that the City
of Carlsbad is a city that sees quality art and culture as an integral part of city life. In order to do
that, the Committee and Arts Office intend to supplement city funding with funding from
outside sources; individual, corporate and foundation contributions. The James S. Copley
Foundation has donated $1,000 towards the Gallery which will be used for operation and
exhibition expenses.
FISCAL IMPACT
The donated amount of $1,000 will be placed in the Arts Office Gallery donations account.

That the above recitations are true and correct.
That the donation of $ I.000 from the James S. Copley Foundation is hereby
accepted and deposited into the Arts Office Gallery donations account and
appropriated to use for Gallery operating and exhibition expenses.
