OF DONATIONS
RECOMMENDED ACTION :
4dopt Resolution No. 98 *Jafl accepting individual financial contributions, product donations and in-kind
services totaling Forty Thousand, two Hundred ($40,200) dollars in support of the 1998 Carlsbad Triathlon.
ITEM EXPLANATION :
IThe following items, services and funds were donated to the Carlsbad Triathlon in support of the 1998 race during
the calendar year of July 1 - December 31, 1998. Thank you letters from the Recreation Department have been sent
to all contributors.
Best Western $600 accommodations
Bonita Bananas $600 product
Brecht BMW $600 service, $1,500 cash
Budget Car .and Truck Rental $600 service
California State Parks & Rec. $1,500 service
Coast Waste Management $250 service
Culligan Water $750 product
Nytro $1,300 product, $3,500 service
Oceanspray $350 product
Powerfood, Inc. $1,500 cash, $3,200 product
Ralph’s Grocery Company $300 product
Loy Chiropractic Center $350 cash, $3,000 service
Nine Palms, Inc. $3,000 service
Triathlete Magazine $6,000 promotional service
Expo Vendors $2,90Ocash
Cannondale Bicycles $900 product
North County Times $7,500 promotional service
FISCAL IMPACT:
Twenty thousand, four hundred and fifty ($20,450) dollars in product and services were donated by various
company’s to offset costs of the 1998 Carlsbad Triathlon and/or enhance the quality of the event. Six thousand, two
hundred and fifty ($6,250) dollars in cash was collected from various company’s to financially enrich and offset
costs of the 1998 Carlsbad Triathlon. Thirteen thousand, five hundred ($13,500) dollars in promotional services
were donated to the 1998 Carlsbad Triathlon to advertise and promote the race. As in previous years, and with the
approval of Council, the cash funds are allotted into special accounts 1495002 7550 ($2,250) and 1495002 7899
($4,000) for use by the Recreation Division for the Carlsbad Triathlon.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING INDIVIDUAL FINANCIAL
CONTRIBUTIONS, PRODUCT DONATIONS AND IN-KIND SERVICES
TOiALlNG FORTY THOUSAND, TWO HUNDRED ($40,200) DOLLARS
IN SUPPORT OF THE 1998 CARLSBAD TRIATHLON.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, supports the
annual Carlsbad Triathlon and Beach Festival produced by the City’s Recreation
Department; and
WHEREAS, the annual Carlsbad Triathlon was held the weekend of July Ilth
and 12”’ 1998; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept these donations and acknowledge
the generosity and support of community vendors and organizations who donated to
this special event.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, the following:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct,
2. That the City Council does hereby accept the merchandise, services and
financial support totaling forty thousand, two hundred dollars. ($40,200)
3. That $2,250 is here by appropriated to the Recreation special revenue fund
1495002 7550.
4. That $4,000 is here by appropriated to the Recreation special revenue fund
1495002 7899.

PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad, California, held on the 6th day of October , 1998, by the
following vote to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Finnila, Nygaard, and Hall
