ACCEPTANCE OF DONATIONS
I RECOMMENDED ACTION :
Adopt Resolution No. 9? * 37 , accepting donations of nine thousand two hundred ten dollars
($9,210) in cash and product in support of the Youth Basketball Program.

ITEM EXPLANATION :
The Recreation Department has been provided with donations of cash and product totaling nine thousand
two hundred ten dollars in support of the Youth Basketball Program. During the January meeting, the
Parks and Recreation Commission received the donations and unanimously recommended acceptance by
the City Council. Letters of appreciation have been sent. The following organizations offered donations in
support of the Youth Basketball Program:

l Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill (Merchandise)
l Ruby’s Diner (Merchandise)
l Legoland California (Merchandise)
l Upper Deck (Merchandise)

The Youth Basketball Program runs from November 1998, through March, 1999. The program offers
area youngsters, ages 7-17, the opportunity to enjoy the game of basketball within a framework that
emphasized equal play and skills development. The cash donations help to offset the cost of program
equipment. Donated merchandise is distributed to each of the 900 youngsters in the program.
I FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds have been deposited into account #149-4503-5651 (Recreation Special Events). All donations
offset the cost to the City in providing these programs and contribute to the popularity of the events.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING
DONATIONS OF MERCHANDISE AND FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS
VALUING A TOTAL OF NINE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED TEN DOLLARS
($9,210) IN SUPPORT OF THE YOUTH BASKETBALL PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the Youth Basketball program began in November, 1998 and runs through
March, 1999; and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission has received donations of goods and
II money totaling nine thousand two hundred ten dollars ($9,210) a copy of which is attached hereto a

and made a part hereof; and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission has recommended acceptance of
these donations by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept these donations and acknowledge the
generosity and support of community vendors and organizations who donated to these programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, the following:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2.That the City Council does hereby accept the merchandise and financial support totaling
nine thousand two hundred ten dollars ($9,210).
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
February
City of Carlsbad, California, held on the $& day of , 1999, by the following vote to wit: /
