HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-02-09; City Council; 15035; Acceptance of DonationsACCEPTANCE OF DONATIONS RECOMMENDED ACTION : Adopt Resolution No. yp-40 , accepting individual donations and in kind services totaling four thousand six hundred dollars ($4,600) in support of the 1998 Fall Festival. ITEM EXPLANATION : Coldwell Banker of Encinitas donated the following services in support of the 1998 Fall Festival. l Special Events Group (Rental of Backdrop) l Balloons l Face Painters l Balloon Clowns l Prizes for Contest l Trick or Treat Bags TOTAL OF DONATIONS l Volunteer Hours $2,000 250 500 500 500 850 $4,600 40 People/240 Total Hours 9 5Ii a % . . E 2 d 0 f 8 ~ The program is an event for children ages 12 and under and their parents. It included carnival games, crafts, astro jumps, magicians, face painters, games and other holiday fun. The 1998 Fall Festival, held October 31”’ from 2:00 to 5:30 pm at Stagecoach Park, was very successful. The addition of a local business sponsor made the festival a true community event. In addition to the Recreation Department sending out 14,000 flyers to the local schools, Coldwell Banker also distributed flyers to new home buyers and local businesses around the Stagecoach area to promote this event. Overall the festival attracted an estimated 1,500 families. A letter of appreciation has been sent on behalf of the Recreation Department to Coldwell Banker and their employees. FISCAL IMPACT: No fiscal impact to the general fund. The merchandise donations and volunteer hours offset the cost of the event and contribute to its popularity. EXHIBITS: 1. Resolution No. VI- 90 1 RESOLUTION NO. 99-40 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING DONATIONS OF MERCHANDISE, GIFT CERTIFICATES AND IN KIND SERVICES VALUING A TOTAL OF FOUR THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS ($4,600) IN SUPPORT OF THE FALL FESTIVAL. WHEREAS, the Fall Festival was held on October 31, 1998; and WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission has received merchandise, gift certificates and in kind service donations in support of the Fall Festival, a listing of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof; and WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission has recommended acceptance of these donations by the City Council; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept these donations and acknowledge the generosity and support of community vendors and organizations who donated to this special event. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Cartsbad, California, the following: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That the City Council does hereby accept the merchandise, gift certificates and in kind service donations totaling four thousand six hundred dollars ($4,600).
