AB’FS AND APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. 99-lilaccepting grants from the California Arts Council in the amount of $6,150. ITEM EXPLANATION One of City Council’s 1999 goals for the Arts Office is to “offer community-wide, multi-cultural events...“. The Arts Commission recommends that the City continue the visiting artists program with support from the California Arts Council by holding a minimum of two programs during FY 98/99. The California Arts Council provides partial funding for visiting artists and has awarded the City of Carlsbad grants for the following artists groups: Yaelisa and Solera Flamenco Dance Company and Perla Batalla and Ensemble. Yaelisa and Solera Flamenco Dance Company were resident Artists-in the Community in October 1998 and Perla Batalla and Ensemble will be resident Artists-in-the-Community, April 28-30, 1999. Both artist groups conduct workshops, lecture-demonstrations, school assemblies and full public performances. The California Arts Council has provided support for a number of visiting artist programs in the past, including Make*A*Circus, guitarist Chris Proctor, San Jose Taiko and Access Theatre. FISCAL IMPACT The total for the artist residency programs is $14,000. (Yaelisa and Solera Flamenco Dance Company - $3,150, Perla Batalla and Ensemble - $3,000). The California Arts Council has awarded the City of Carlsbad grants in the amount of $6,150. The remainder is budgeted in the Arts Cffice 1998/99 budget.
