HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. Wc2Y6 appointing one member to the Historic Preservation
Commission.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Carlsbad Municipal Code, Chapter 2.42, provides that the membership of the Historic
Preservation Commission shall consist of the following:
l Five regular members and one ex-officio representative of the Planning Commission.
l All regular members must have knowledge of and a demonstrated interest in historic
preservation and local history.
l Three members will have a background or interest in architecture, archaeology, history,
biology, engineering, geology or a related field.
l Two members will have an interest in local history and will serve at large from the
community.
The Code also provides that all members of the Commission must be Carlsbad residents and
registered voters.
The term of John Jones expires in April, 1999. Mr. Jones was originally appointed to the
Commission in May, 1993, to fill an unexpired term and was reappointed in May, 1996. He has
served six years.
Mr. Jones has served in the category requiring “an interest in local history and service at large
from the community.” The appointee, therefore, must meet the qualifications for this category.
Other members of the Commission are: Gordon Bizieff, Don Christiansen, Dorothy Dudley
Muth, and Connie Trejo.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPOINTING ONE MEMBER TO
THE CARLSBAD HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
WHEREAS, the term of John Jones as a member of the Historic Preservation
Commission expires in April, 1999; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Jones has served in the following category: “One of two members
who have an interest in local history and serve at large from the community.”
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the following person is hereby appointed to serve as a member of the
Historic Preservation Commission for a term to expire in April, 2003:

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 6 day of July , 1999, by the following vote, to
