ACCEPTANCE OF
DONATION

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 99-458 accepting a work of art valued at $18,000 from Fieldstone
Communities, Inc.
ITEM EXPLANATION
Fieldstone Communities, Inc. is donating an artwork to the City of Carlsbad entitled “Landmark” by
painter Sam Hyde Harris. The work is an 18” x 24” plein air painting depicting the Carlsbad train
station. The donation to the City is made in conjunction with the William D. Cannon Art Gallery’s
inaugural exhibition of The Fieldstone Collection: Impressionism in Southern California. The painting
is currently on display in the Gallery with the Fieldstone Collection.
The Arts Commission approved acceptance of the donated artwork and recommends City Council
also accept this donation.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A DONATION FROM FIELDSTONE COMMUNITIES, INC.
WHEREAS, the William D. Cannon Art Gallery’s inaugural exhibition is “The Fieldstone
Collection: Impressionism in Southern California”; and
WHEREAS, Fieldstone Communities, Inc. is donating an artwork valued at $18,000 to the
City in conjunction with the inaugural exhibition; and
WHEREAS, the artwork is an 18” x 24” plein air painting depicting the Carlsbad train
station, entitled, “Landmark” by painter Sam Hyde Harris; and
WHEREAS, the artwork is currently on- display at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, as
follows:
:: That the above recitations are true and correct. That the donation of the artwork entitled, “Landmark” valued at $18,000 from Fieldstone Communities, Inc. is hereby accepted.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED, at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad, California, held on the 19th day of October , 1999, by the following vote,
to wit: -.
