Staff recommends Council adopt Resolution No. 99-470
for eight Ford Explorers to Ken Grody Ford.

ITEM EXPLANATION
Eight 4 wheel drive vehicles were budgeted for purchase this fiscal year. Three
vehicles are additions to the fleet for the Engineering Department. Four vehicles
replace units which exceeded the age and mileage requirements of the City’s
vehicle replacement program. The eighth unit is a replacement for a vehicle which
requires extensive repairs and staff believes early replacement to be the more cost
effective solution.
In accordance with Section 328.120 of the Municipal Code, Notice to Bidders
was published and Requests for Bid were sent to ten vendors. Six bids were
opened on October 14, 1999, as listed below:

FISCAL IMPACT
Unencumbered funds are available in the Engineering Department and Vehicle
Replacement capital accounts for these vehicles.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A BID AND AUTHORIZING
THE PURCHASE OF EIGHT FORD EXPLORERS
WHEREAS, Section 3.28.120 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code provides that
materials and services costing over twenty-five thousand dollars must be obtained through
formal bidding procedures; and
WHEREAS, bid proposals were submitted by six vendors and were judged against
known criteria;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows:
1. That the bid of Ken Grody Ford is hereby accepted.
2. The Purchasing Officer is hereby authorized to execute a Purchase Order for
the purchase of eight Ford Explorers in the amount of $199,101.53 including
sales tax.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad held on the 26th day of OCTOBER , 1999, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Hall, Finnila, Nygaard, and Kulchin
