HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-01-11; City Council; 15564; Revised Salary Schedule For CPOA-’ OF CARLSBAD - AGEP-A BILL REVISED SALARY SCHEDULE FOR CLASSIFICATIONS REPRESENTED BY THE CARLSBAD POLICE OFFICERS’ ASSOCIATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution NodooO-12 amending the Salary Schedule effective January 1,200O for classifications represented by the Carlsbad Police Officers’ Association. ITEM EXPLANATION: On March 9, 1999, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 99-78 approving a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Carlsbad Police Officers’ Association (CPOA). The term of the MOU is two (2) years and will expire on December 3 1,200O. The terms of the MOU with CPOA call for a 3% general wage increase effective January 1, 2000. Therefore, attached is the revised salary schedule for classifications represented by the Carlsbad Police Officers’ Association. The terms of the MOU also call for a $40 per month increase to the amount the City shall contribute on behalf of each active employee towards the payment of premiums under the PERS health program effective January 1,200O. Finally, the terms of the MOU call for an increase in uniform reimbursement from $22.12 per pay period to $25 per pay period effective January 1, 2000. FISCAL IMPACT: The annual cost of salary adjustments and related benefits, as well as the increases in the City’s health insurance contribution and in the uniform reimbursement, is estimated at $260,000. The fiscal impact of these increases on the FY 1999/00 budget is estimated at $130,000. Sufficient funds are available from current appropriations in the 1999/00 Police Department operating budget. RESOLUTION NO. 2000-12 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING A REVISED SALARY SCHEDULE FOR CLASSIFICATIONS REPRESENTED BY THE CARLSBAD POLICE OFFICERS’ ASSOCIATION (CPOA). WHEREAS, representatives of management and the Carlsbad Police Officers’ 8 Association conducted negotiations pursuant to the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act regarding 9 wages and other terms and conditions of employment for the period January 1, 1999 to 10 December 3 1,200O; and 11 12 WHEREAS, said representatives reached agreement and submitted the Memorandum of Understanding to the City Council which was approved; and 13 14 WHEREAS, the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding call for a 3% 15 general wage increase effective January 1,2000, and 16 WHEREAS, the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding call for a $40 per 17 month increase to the amount the City shall contribute on behalf of each active’employee 18 towards the payment of premiums under the PERS health program effective January 1, 19 2000, and 20 21 WHEREAS, the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding call for an increase 22 in uniform reimbursement from $22.12 per pay period to $25 per pay period effective 23 January 1,2000, and 24 WHEREAS, funds for these increases are available and have been included in the 25 Police Department operating budget for Fiscal Year 1999/00. 26 f/II 27 /l/f 20 1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That the Police Department Salary Schedule set forth in Exhibit A, attached hereto and made a part thereof, is adopted. 7 3. That the dollar amount the City shall contribute on behalf of each active 8 employee represented by the CPOA towards the payment of premiums under the PERS 9 health program shall increase by $40 per month effective January 1,200O. 10 4.
