, RECOMMENDED ACTION :
Recommend the City Council direct the City Manager to evaluate the feasibility for City Council to
amend the adopted 2000 Budget to include the development of an additional community pool.
~ ITEM EXPLANATION :
At the January 11, 2000 City Council meeting, the Council heard from several citizens who
requested that the City Council amend the adopted 2000 Budget to include the funding and
development of an additional community pool in Carlsbad. Those who spoke indicated that there
was an immediate need to build a 50-meter swimming pool and requested the City Council take
appropriate action to fund the project.
The public was informed that the development of the future pool was scheduled in the CIP
Budget for F.Y. 2004-2009 and was to be located at the 33 acre Alga Norte parksite in the
Southeast Quadrant of the City. The primary reason that the pool was identified for development
in 2004 was due to a lack of access to the parksite, funding availability; and the priority of other
City projects.
Council informed the residents that their request would be reviewed, along with a multitude of
other City projects during Council’s upcoming Goals Workshop.
In order for the City Council to determine if it is possible to relocate the pool to another parksite,
and to fund the development of the pool this fiscal year, it is requested that the City Manager
direct staff to analyze this proposal in more detail and provide more information to the Council for
their review.
