Adopt Resolution No. 2000-103 accepting bids and awarding a contract for the construction of
the traffic signal construction at Carlsbad Village Drive and Valley Street, Project No. 3620.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On December 7, 1999, the City Council approved the plans and specifications for the traffic signal at Carlsbad Village Drive and Valley Street, and .directed the City Clerk to advertise for
construction bids. On February 10, 2000, the following five (5) sealed bids were received:
The Engineer’s Estimate for construction of the traffic signal was $120,000. Bids for the project
have been reviewed and analyzed. The lowest responsible bidder is Maverick Electric, Inc., at
$114,000. Staff, therefore, recommends the award of the traffic signal construction contract to
Maverick Electric, Inc.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW:
This project is categorically exempt from the environmental review process under the provisions of
the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Section 15301 Class 1 (f). A Notice of Exemption has been issued by the Planning Director.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The project cost breakdown is as follows:
Construction $114,000
Inspection, Project Administration & Construction Contingencies $34,200
TOTAL PROJECT COST $148,200
TOTAL AMOUNT AVAILABLE $156,000
Funds in the amount of $156,000 are available for this project.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING BIDS AND
AWARDING A CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF
THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT CARLSBAD VILLAGE DRIVE
AND VALLEY STREET. PROJECT NO. 3620.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California has determined it
necessary, desirable and in the public interest to construct the traffic signal at Carlsbad Village
Drive and Valley Street; and
WHEREAS, five (5) sealed bids were received on February 10, 2000 for the project; and
WHEREAS, the lowest responsive, responsible bid for the project was submitted by
Maverick Electric, Inc., in the amount of $114,000.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the low bid submitted by Maveiick Electric, Inc., in the amount of $114,000, is
hereby accepted and the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute a contract on behalf of the City
for the construction of the traffic signal at Carlsbad Village Drive and Valley Street.

4. That the award of this contract is contingent upon the bidder submitting the lowest
2 responsive bid executing the required contract and submitting the required bonds and insurance
3 policies, as described in the contract, within twenty (20) days of adoption of this resolution. The
4 City Manager may grant reasonable extensions of time.

6 PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad City Council
7 held on the 4th day of April t 2000 by the following vote, to wit:
