RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Staff recommends Council adopt Resolution No. &Co0 - //A , approving the
purchase of three Toro mowers from California Turf.
ITEM EXPLANATION
Three riding mowers used to maintain City facilities are approved in the 1999-2000
Vehicle Replacement budget. One mower will be located at Stagecoach Park and one at
Poinsettia Park to service those areas. The third will be located at the Public Works yard
at 1166 Carlsbad Village Drive and will service several facilities in the north city area.
The City has standardized on Toro as our sole manufacturer of mowers to provide
several benefits. The benefits include reduced training time resulting in fewer operator
errors, increased safety of operation due to familiarity with the equipment, better
knowledge of preventative maintenance and repair procedures and reduced parts
inventories.
Toro mowers of this type are sold solely through California Turf in our area and are
therefore considered a sole source item. Normal bidding procedures were waived.

FISCAL IMPACT
Funds are available in 1999-2000 Vehicle Replacement account for the purchase of this
equipment.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF
THREE TORO MOWERS
WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad requires the purchase of the mowing equipment
to maintain City facilities, and;
WHEREAS, the City has standardized on Toro equipment for this purpose;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad as follows:
1. The Purchasing Officer is hereby authorized and directed to issue a purchase
order to California Turf in the amount of $107345.95 including sales tax .;
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad held on the 11 th day of April , 2000, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Hall, Finnila and Kulchin
NOES: None . .
ABSENT: Council Member Nygaard
