ITEM EXPLANATION: The City’s geographic information system (GIS) has served as the centralized service for mapping and spatial analysis to all city departments since its inception in 1991. Requests for services are made to the GIS, and products are delivered. However, city staff do not have direct access to the data in the GIS as they do with other City information systems. In addition, various city departments have their own specialized mapping software. These systems create, store and utilize spatial data to support specific Department activities. However, the data generated from these various systems, as well as the GIS, can not be easily distributed and shared city-wide. As with the GIS, city staff do not have the means to access this data for viewing and analysis. A collection of software has been selected to enable the unified storage and retrieval of information in all formats of geographic data generated by various departments, including the GIS. The installation of this software will also enable various city staff to access all spatial and spatially- related data from their desktops. The selected software is that offered by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), Inc., the makers of the GIS software the City standardized on in 1991. No other firm has spatial data warehousing software that would be compatible with the City’s existing GIS software. Therefore, the purchasing officer has waived the requirement for multiple proposals. This software consists of the following components: - lnformix Database Software to run on the existing GIS Server Computer - ESRI Spatial Data Engine (SDE) Software FISCAL IMPACT: The cost of this procurement is $38,391.52. The funds necessary to cover these costs have been appropriated in the Geographic Information System budget for FY99-00. 1.
