ITEM EXPLANATION : As a result of a visit to the Leo Carrillo Ranch by members of the Los Californianos organization, the group has donated $525 to the Carrillo Ranch Trust Fund. The participants were impressed with the potential of the future park and are confident that the city will produce a showpiece reflecting the Hispanic heritage of California and the memory of Leo Carrillo. According to the Los Californianos web page, “In December of 1968, a small group of descendents of Spanish Alta Californians formed Los Californianos in anticipation of the bicentennial year of the discovery of San Francisco Bay in 1769 by the expedition led by Don Gaspar de Portola. Los Californianos was created for the purpose of preserving the heritage of the early Hispanic Californians in Alta California by conducting research on genealogy and civil, religious, military, social and cultural activities in Alta California in order to provide an accurate and authentic oral, written and pictorial interpretation of the history of Spanish and Mexican Alta California”. Upon receipt of this donation, the Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously recommended acceptance by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT: $525 has been deposited into the Carrillo Ranch Trust Fund. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, has received a ~ donation of $525 from Los Califomianos organization in support of the Canillo Ranch Trust, ~ and ~ WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission has received this donation and ~ recommended acceptance by the City Council, and WHEREAS, the City Council acknowledges with gratitude the benevolence of the Los Californianos organization. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, the following: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. The City Council does hereby accept a donation of $525 from the Los Californianos organization. With the help of the Friends of Carrillo Ranch and Los Ca.l5ornianos member, Wayne Donaldson, the tours went very well. The participants were impressed with the potential of the mture park. We are confidant that the City will produce a showpiece reflecting the Hispanic heritage of California and the memory of that extraordinary native son, Leo Carrillo. Our organization is proud to provide the included check for $525 to the Carrillo Ranch Trust Fund. This represents donations from the seventy-five tour participants. We would also like to take the opportunity to let you know of the hospitality given our group by Michael Bliss and his family. They are obviously very dedicated to the Ranch and its future.
