RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2000 ..s& 9 amending the Salary Schedule effective January 1,
2001, for classifications represented by the Carlsbad Firefighters’ Association.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On October 17,2000, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2000-3 17 approving a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Carlsbad Firefighters’ Association (CFA).
The term of the MOU is two (2) years and will expire on December 3 1,200l.
The terms of the MOU with CFA call for a 4% general wage increase effective January 1,
2001. Therefore, attached is the revised salary schedule for classifications represented by the
Carlsbad Firefighters’ Association. The terms of the MOU also call for a $40 per month
increase to the amount the City shall contribute on behalf of each active employee towards the
payment of premiums under the PERS health program effective January 1,200 1.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The annual cost of salary adjustments and related benefits, as well as the increases in the
City’s health insurance contribution, is estimated at $340,000. The fiscal impact of these
increases on the FY 2000/01 budget is estimated at $170,000. Funds were previously
appropriated with the adoption of Resolution No 2000-3 17 on October 17,200O.

RESOLUTION NO. 2000-369
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING A
REVISED SALARY SCHEDULE FOR CLASSIFICATIONS
REPRESENTED BY THE CARLSBAD FIREFIGHTERS’
ASSOCIATION.
WHEREAS, representatives of management and the Carlsbad Firefighters’
Association conducted negotiations pursuant to the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act regarding
wages and other terms and conditions of employment for the period January 1,200O to
December 3 1,200l; and
WHEREAS, said representatives reached agreement and submitted the
Memorandum of Understanding to the City Council which was approved; and
WHEREAS, the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding call for a 4%
general wage increase effective January 1,200 1, and
WHEREAS, funds for this salary adjustment are available and have been included
in the Fire Department operating budget for Fiscal Year 2000/01.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1, That the above recitations are true and correct.

2 2. That the Fire Department Salary Schedule set forth in Exhibit A, attached
3 hereto and made a part thereof, is adopted.
4 PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad

6 City Council held on the 12th dayof December , 2000, by the following
7 vote, to wit:
a AYES: Council Members Lewis, Hall, Finnila, Nygaard and Kulchin.
