RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution d60/-46 No. approving the agreement with the Carlsbad Unified
School District (CUSD) to accept funds in the amount of $8,000 as part of an arts
education grant awarded to CUSD by the California State Board of Education.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Carlsbad Arts Office has been working in partnership with CUSD for the past several
years to develop and implement a five year arts education school/community plan.
This is the second year CUSD received a grant from the State Board of Education to continue
the process of implementing arts education in the schools. The grant provides $8,000
for the Carlsbad Arts Office to provide community arts education services and programs.
The Arts Office is providing curriculum development and student tours relating to
exhibitions at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery.
City Council is asked to approve the agreement with CUSD and to accept $8,000 in payment
for services provided by the Arts Office.
This program complies with the City Council goal “to enhance educational opportunities for all
segments of the community.”
FISCAL IMPACT:
Staff requests the Finance Director be authorized to appropriate $8,000 into the applicable
Arts Office account.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, APPROVING AN AGREEMENT WITH THE CARLSBAD UNIFIED
SCHOOL DISTRICT AND AUTHORIZING THE APPORPRIATION OF FUNDS.
WHEREAS, City Council encourages partnerships between the City and its
local school districts; and
WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad and Carlsbad Unified School District have
partnered on arts education grants for the past several years to develop and implement
a five year arts education plan; and
WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Unified School District has received an arts education
grant of which $8,000 is allocated to the City to continue to provide services related
to arts education to the community; and
WHEREAS, the City and the Carlsbad Unified School District have
entered into agreement to outline the services to be provided by the City; and
WHEREAS, the funds received will be used to offset costs incurred for services provided.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, as
follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the agreement between the City and Carlsbad Unified School District for arts
education purposes is hereby approved.
3. That payment in the amount of $8,000 is accepted and the Finance Director is hereby
authortzed to appropriate $8,000 into the applicable Arts Office account for the uses
described herein.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED, at a regular meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad, California, held on the -6_rh_ day of March ,2001, by the
following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Finnila, Nygamnd Hall.

LETTER OF AGREEMENT, CALIFORNIA STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION GRANT
This document serves as a Letter of Agreement between the CITY OF CARLSBAD, a
municipal corporation, hereinafter referred to as “City” and the CARLSBAD UNIFIED
SCHOOL DISTRICT, hereinafter referred to as “CUSD”.
As part of a California State Board of Education grant, CUSD requires the services of the
CITY to provide community services and programs related to arts education.
CITY and CUSD agree that the CITY will create two educational curriculum packets for 3rd
and 4th grade teachers that expand the educational benefits of two scheduled exhibitions in the
William D. Cannon Art Gallery.
CITY and CUSD agree that the CITY will receive $8,000 upon billing by the CIN to perform
the above services from CUSD as part of a California State Board of Education Grant.
This Agreement may be modified by mutual consent of the CITY and CUSD. Any changes
shall be made in writing.
