ACCEPTANCE OF NEW ROOFS AT CALAVERA AND MTG. 4/3/01 STAGECOACH COMMUNITY CENTERS

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.- accepting the work in accordance with Contract
No. FACOl-01 as complete, and direct the City Clerk to have the Notice of
Completion recorded and to release the bonds thirty five (35) days after recordation.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On September 26, 2000, the City Council awarded a contract to Nelson Roofing, Inc.
for $145,360. Contract No. FACOl-01 is for the furnishing and installation of new
roofs at Calavera and Stagecoach Community Centers. In the past, both roofs have
leaked and have had to be repaired in recent storms. Replacement of the roofs will
protect the structure and the equipment inside and will eliminate inconvenience to the
occupants.
There was one change order that increased the contract amount by $1,716. The
change order allowed the contractor to install crickets at Calavera and plastic
clamping collars at Stagecoach. The crickets at Calavera will help direct any
standing water to nearby drains. The clamping collars secure the drains in place.
Plastic collars were used instead of steel to prevent potential building damages
and/or injuries to the public if the collars were to fall during a sudden earthquake.
The actual construction took a total of 60 working days from start to finish, and this
project is now complete. The contractor work is acceptable to the Public Works
Manager/General Services and to the Public Works Supervisor.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds were previously appropriated in the C.I.P. adoption and sufficient funds are
available for this project.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING THE WORK AS COMPLETE AND DIRECTING THE RECORDATION OF THE NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR FURNISHGIN AND INSTALLING NEW ROOFS AT CALAVERA AND STAGECOACH COMMUNITY CENTERS
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad has previously appropriated funds for
iumishing and installing new roofs at Calavera and Stagecoach Community Centers, hereinafter
?eferred to as the “Project;” and
WHEREAS, the City Council has previously awarded a construction contract for the
xoject; and
WHEREAS, the Project work has been satisfactory completed; and
WHEREAS, a Notice of Completion has been prepared for the Project; and
WHEREAS, the City Council hereby finds it necessary, desirable, and in the public interest
:o accept the completed work for furnishing and installing new roofs at Calavera and Stagecoach
Zommunity Centers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad as
ollows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
