RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.gml-f 33 accepting the bid of $25,837 and awarding the contract to
Lesicka Construction to remodel the public restrooms at Magee Park to conform with
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards -Bid No. FACOl-08.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Improvements are needed at the public restrooms of Magee Park. Specifically, the
restrooms need to be accessible to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
standards. Some of the work will include lowering the elevation of the plumbing fixtures (i.e.
toilets, sinks, drinking fountain), installing grab bars, providing wider access for wheelchairs,
etc.
On March 26, 2001, staff began soliciting “Request for Bids” to qualified contractors. One bid
was received, opened, witnessed and recorded on April 11, 2001. The bid was reviewed by
the staff of Purchasing and the General Services of Public Works and is as follows:
Lesicka Construction $25,837
Even though only one bid was submitted, staff feels the bid from Lesicka Construction is a
fair and responsive bid. Staff estimated this project would cost between $23,000 to $25,000 to complete. Therefore, staff recommends the contract be awarded to Lesicka Construction
in the amount of $25,837. The contractor’s registration and insurance are in order and
references are satisfactory. Contract documents are on file in the General Services of Public
Works off ice.
This project has been determined to be exempt from environmental review per CEQA- Class
1 (c), Minor alteration of existing facility.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The project cost is $25,837. Funds were previously appropriated in the C.I.P. adoption and
sufficient funds are available for this project.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING THE BID AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A CONTRACT TO REMODEL PUBLIC
RESTROOMS AT MAGEE PARK TO CONFORM WITH AMERICANS
WITH DISABILITIES ACT STANDARDS - BID NO. FACOl-08
WHEREAS, a bid has been received by the City of Carlsbad, California to remodel the
public restrooms at Magee Park to conform with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
standards; and
WHEREAS, the responsive bid received was submitted by Lesicka Construction in the
amount of $25,837; and
WHEREAS, the total cost of this project is $30,000 including contingency funds; and
WHEREAS, sufficient funds are available in the Capital Improvement Program budget.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad as
follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. The bid of $25,837 by Lesicka Construction to remodel the public restrooms at
Magee Park to conform with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and a
contingency account of $4,000 is hereby accepted.
3. The Purchasing Officer is hereby authorized to execute a purchase order for this
project.

a contract for and on behalf of the City of Carlsbad.
