City Council adopt Resolution No. accepting an $8,200 donation for the purchase of a
video projector for the Senior Center.
ITEM EXPLANATION :
A Senior Center participant, who regularly attends the “Introduction to Opera” program (Exhibit
2), made an $8,200 donation to the Senior Center to purchase a state of the art video projector
for permanent installation in the auditorium. This donor wishes to remain anonymous.
After attending numerous programs, which utilizes the present video projector at the Center, the
donor was disappointed in the quality and suggested staff apply to the Charles and Ruth
Billingsley Foundation to attempt to get funding for a new projector. Staff applied to the Charles
and Ruth Billingsley Foundation for the funding however, funds are not awarded from the
foundation until the close of the calendar year. The anonymous donor wanted the seniors to be
able to enjoy operas, movies and other programs immediately and thus donated the funds for a
new video projector. The donation was made with the understanding that if the Center were
successful in getting funding for the projector from the Billingsley Foundation, the gift of $8,200
would be returned to the donor.
SENIOR COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
At their meeting June 7, 2001, the Senior Commission voted unanimously to recommend City
Council acceptance and appropriation of the $8,200 for the purchase of a video projector. A
