RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. $@I/-&approving out-of-state travel for two (2) Information Technology staff
members to attend training in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for STORServer 2000, the tape library
backup system.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On July 24, 2001, the City Council authorized the purchase and installation of an enterprise-wide
tape library system, STORServer 2000. This system will be used to backup (and restore) information from various computer systems throughout the City to a centralized location.
In order to effectively operate and administer the new system, it is recommended that two (2)
Information Technology staff members receive formal training. The training will cover such items
as:
. STORServer configuration and administrative functions
. Creating automatic schedules fbr backup and archive
9 Data recovery
n Onsite/Offsite tape management
n Disaster recovery
In accordance with the vendor’s recommendation, one staff member would attend training in
August before the installation, and a second would attend training after the installation is complete.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost for the training itself is included in the purchase of the system, however the travel is not.
Travel costs for two (2) Information Technology staff members to attend the three-day training
course will be approximately $3,000. Funds necessary to cover these expenses are available in
the Information Technology’s 2001-2002 operating budget.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, APPROVING OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL TO ATTEND
TRAINING FOR THE STORSERVER TAPE LIBRARY BACKUP
SYSTEM
WHEREAS, the City Council has previously authorized the purchase and installation
of an enterprise-wide tape library backup system, STORServer 2000, and;
I WHEREAS, two (2) Information Technology staff require training in order to
effectively operate and administer the system; and I
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad
as follows:
I. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That out-of-state travel is hereby authorized, in accordance with City
Policy, for two (2) Information Technology staff members to attend formal training for the
tape library backup system in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of
the City of Carlsbad held on the 7th day of August , 2001 by the
following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Nygaard and Hall.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Council Member
