THE’RIENDS OF THE CARLSBAD LIBRARY TO THE
MTG. 8121101 CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY, APPROPRIATING DONATION
TO THE LIBRARY GIFTS AND BEQUESTS FUND, AND
DEPT. LIB ACKNOWLEDGING PLEDGE OF $38,500 IN SUPPORT OF
VARIOUS LIBRARY PROGRAMS.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. $?&--gq accepting a donation of $10,440 from the Friends of the
Carlsbad Library, appropriating the funds to the Library Gifts and Bequests Fund,
acknowledging a pledge in support of programs valued at $38,500 and directing
appropriate letters of thanks.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $10,440 to the Library for FY 2001-2002.
The donated funds will be used for the following purposes:
Purchase of Computer Printer for Adult Learning Program
Purchase of a book drop for donations
E-Books
Adult Computer Lab enhancements

The donation is appropriated to the Library Gifts and Bequests Fund (145 4010 7899).
In addition to the above donation, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have pledged to fund
the following programs and activities valued at $38,500:
The Summer Reading Program for 2002
Various Children and Young Adult Programs from September 2001 - May 2002
The Annual Multi-Cultural Program

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITYOF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A GIFT OF$10,440
FROM THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY, APPROPRIATING
DONATION TO THE LIBRARY GIFTSAND BEQUESTS
FUND, AND ACKNOWLEDGING A PLEDGE OF $38,500
IN SUPPORT OF VARIOUS LIBRARY PROGRAMS
WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $10,440 to the library, and;
WHEREAS, the library and the Friends have agreed that this donation will be used to
purchase a computer Printer for the Adult Learning Program, a book drop for donations, E-book
research, and enhancements for the Adult Computer Lab, and;
WHEREAS, the Friends have pledged support of the Summer Reading Program, various
Children and Young Adult Programs and the Annual Multi-Cultural Program for FY2001-2002, at
a value of $38,500;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council accepts the gift of $10,440 from the Friends
of the Library on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, and hereby appropriates these funds to the
Library Gifts and Bequests Fund (145 4010 7899).
3. That the City Council accepts the pledge of the $38,500 in support of various
Library programs.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad, California, held on the 21st day of Auqust ,
2001, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin,
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
