RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Adopt Resolution No. &?a / - z7 1 approving out-of-state travel for a representative from
Public Works to attend Municipal Storm Water Management Training in Phoenix, Arizona.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The City of Carlsbad is in the process of implementing a Storm Water Protection Program to meet
compliance with San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board NPDES Order No. 2001-01.
This specific training offered by the American Society of Civil Engineers is pertinent to the
implementation of this new regulatory program. Staff stands to gain specific knowledge and tools
beneficial to the City.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds for training, conferences, and seminars of Storm Water Protection Program staff was
originally included in the FY 2001-02 Public Works Department Budget, therefore funding is
available for this training. The cost for two representatives from Public Works to attend the three-day
workshop will be approximately $4,000 ($2,000 per person). Staff is requesting the Council approve
attendance to the Municipal Storm Water Management Training in Phoenix, Arizona.

RESOLUTION NO. 2001-371
A RESOLUTION OF THE CD-Y COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING OUT-OF-STATE
TRAVEL FOR REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE PUBLIC WORKS
DEPARTMENT TO ATTEND MUNICIPAL STORM WATER
MANAGEMENT TRAINING IN PHOENIX, ARIZONA.
WHEREAS, the Municipal Storm Water Management Training is an educational and
informational forum; and
WHEREAS, the City Council concurs that it is in the public interest to authorize out-of-state
travel for representatives from Public Works to attend the Municipal Storm Water Management
Training provided by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are correct.
2. That out-of-state travel is hereby authorized, in accordance with City Policy,

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad City Council
