HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-01-15; City Council; 16508; Acceptance & Appropriation Of FundsI I RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. 2002-017 accepting funds from the Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD) in the amount of $8,000 for the use of arts education and programming by the City. ITEM EXPLANATION: The Carlsbad Arts Office has been working in partnership with CUSD for the past several years to develop and implement an arts education schoollcommunity plan. This is the third year CUSD received a grant from the California State Board of Education to continue the process of implementing arts education in the schools. The grant provides $8,000 for the Carlsbad Arts Office to provide community arts education services and programs. The Arts Office is providing curriculum development and student tours relating to exhibitions at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery. City Council is asked to accept $8,000 in payment for services provided by the Arts Office from CUSD. FISCAL IMPACT Staff requests the Finance Director be authorized to appropriate $8,000 into the applicable Arts Office account. EXHIBITS: 1. Resolution No. ma.- 0 / 7 2. WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad and Carlsbad Unified School District have partnered on arts education grants for the past several years to develop and implement a five year arts education plan; and WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Unified School District has received an arts education grant of which $8,000 is allocated to the City to continue to provide services related to arts education to the community; and WHEREAS, the City and the Carlsbad Unified School District have entered into agreement to outline the services to be provided by the City; and WHEREAS, the funds received will be used to offset costs incurred for services provided. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, as follows: 2. That payment in the amount of $8,000 is accepted and the Finance Director is hereby 1. As part of a California State Board of Education grant, CUSD requires the services of the CITY to provide community services and programs related to arts education. and 4th grade teachers that expand the educational benefits of two scheduled exhibitions in CITY and CUSD agree that the CITY will create two educational curriculum packets for 3rd the William D. Cannon Art Gallery during the 2001-2002 school year. CITY and CUSD agree that the CITY will receive $8,000 upon billing by the CITY to perform the above services from CUSD as part of a California State Board of Education Grant. This Agreement may be modified by mutual consent of the CITY and CUSD. Any changes shall be made in writing.
