RECOMMENDED ACTION:
AUTHORIZATION FOR
Adopt Resolution No. &cia -Cb3 authorizing Mayor Pro Tern Member Kulchin and the
Public Works Director out of state travel to attend a meeting at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Water Experimental Station (WES) in Vicksburg, Mississippi on March 13-1 5, 2002.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The purpose of the meeting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is to tour the
Water Experimental Station (WES) and to investigate programs that the Army Corps may offer
relative to Beach Erosion and Coastal Protection research projects. The SANDAG Shoreline
Presewation Committee and Carlsbad Beach Erosion Committee have been interested in evaluating potential coastal projects that could be utilized for Carlsbad's coastline.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost to attend this meeting is approximately $2,300, which includes flights, shuttles, lodging,
and meals. Funds are available in the Council and Public Works budgets to cover all estimated
costs.

RESOLUTION NO. 2002-063
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING MAYOR PRO TEM
OF STATE TRAVEL TO ATTEND A MEETING AT THE U.S. ARMY
MEMBER KULCHIN AND THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR OUT
CORPS OF ENGINEERS. WATER EXPERIMENTAL STATION
{WES) IN VICKSBURG. MISSISSIPPI.ON MARCH 13-15,2002.
WHEREAS, the US. Army Corps of Engineers has invited Carlsbad representatives to
attend a meeting at the Water Experimental Station (WES) station in Vicksburg, Mississippi on
March 13-15, 2002; and
WHEREAS, the City believes it will be valuable for a Council Member and the Public
Works Director to attend thls meeting; and
WHEREAS, funds are available in the amount of $2,300 in the PI 2001-2002 Council and
Public Works Department budgets.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California that permission is granted to Mayor Pro Tem Ann Kulchin and the Public Works Director
to travel out of state to attend this meeting.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad City Council
held on the 5th day of MARCH ,2002 by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Finnila, Nygaard, Hall
