RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No&'J.Ohb approving out-of-state travel for the Senior Management Analyst /
Project Manager in the Information Technology Department to attend the Project Leadership
Conference.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
To succeed as a Project Manager in today's ever changing business environment, one needs to
keep up-to-date on the latest team management techniques, continue to develop scaled project
management skill sets, seek out new project management software products. The Project
Leadership Conference fits a niche in ensuring that these needs are met.
In support of the City Council's strategic goal for Learning, Promote and Support Continuous
Technology Department requests approval for its Senior Management Analyst to attend the Project
Learning Opportunities within the Community and the City organization, the Information
Leadership Conference, March 11-13, 2002 in Orlando, Florida.
The 2002 Project Leadership Conference Features:
Keynotes on project leadership and professional skill development in negotiation,
deciphering business fads and project team management.
Conference sessions featuring topics on how to increase personal productivity, the new
"Project Meanie" job title, women's leadership in the project workplace, and how to select
project management software.
Workshops including sessions on project office and team communication skills
In accordance with Council policy, staff requests approval for out of state travel for the Information
Technology Department Senior Management Analyst, in order to attend the Project Leadership
Conference.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Conference fees, airfare, hotel and meals for the staff member leaving San Diego, Sunday, March
IOth for Orlando and returning to San Diego on Wednesday, March 13'h are anticipated to be approximately $2145. Funds necessary to cover these expenses are available in the Information
Technology's 2001-2002 operating budget.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. JooJ-GLb, approving out-of-state travel for one (1) Information Technology
staff member to travel to Florida to attend the Project Leadership Conference.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
THE PROJECT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
CARLSBAD, APPROVING OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL TO ATTEND
WHEREAS, a City Council goal to promote and support continuous learning opportunities
within the Community and City organization, exists, and;
WHEREAS, the Information Technology Senior Management Analyst requires this training and
learning opportunity in order to keep up to date in the Project Management field, and;
WHEREAS, the Information Technology Department has budgeted the funds necessary to cover
the expenses of this conference.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad as
follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That out-of-state travel is hereby authorized, in accordance with City
Policy, for the Information Technology Senior Management Analyst to attend the Project Leadership
Conference in Orlando, Florida.
