RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2002--105 approving contract documents, special provisions and
specifications, and authorizing the City Clerk to advertise for bids to provide playground equipment
upgrades at various park sites, Contract No. PKS02-05.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Improvements are needed at tot lots at various park sites. Specifically, playground equipment that
meets all Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, as well as recent legislation regarding
safety compliance, need to be installed at six park sites. In addition, over 8,500 square feet of
cushioned rubberized surfacing will be installed to provide access to the playground equipment at
attached as Exhibit 2 are design copies of the improvements.

The estimated cost for these improvements is $335,000, which includes contingencies. Contract
documents and plans are on file in the Public Works/General Services office. This project will
address the Council Goal as described below.
“Become a City that provides exceptional services on a daily basis.”
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW:
This project has been determined to be exempt from environmental review per CEQA - Class 1 (c),
Minor alteration of existing facility.
FISCAL IMPACT
The estimated cost for this project is $335,000. Funding is available in the C.1.P Program budget
and in the Parks Maintenance Capital Outlay and Maintenance & Operations budgets.

CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING CONTRACT
AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO ADVERTISE FOR
DOCUMENTS, SPECIAL PROVISIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS
VARIOUS PARK SITES
BIDS TO PROVIDE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT UPGRADES AT
WHEREAS, the contract documents, special provisions and specifications for the
JmiShing of all labor, material and equipment necessary to provide playground upgrades at
arious park sites, Contract No. PKS02-05 have been prepared and are on file in the Public
VorkslGeneral Services and are incorporated by reference herein; and
WHEREAS, sufficient funds are available for this project in the C.I.P. Program budget and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
:alifornia, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the contract documents, special provisions .and specifications on file in the
;enera1 Services Department are hereby approved.
3. That the City Clerk of the City of Carlsbad is hereby authorized and directed to
roceed to publish, in accordance with law, Notice Inviting Bids for the work of said contract
