Recreation CITY ATTY Council Policy #61 Revision Grad Nite-Request for City Contributions to Grad Nite Activities RECOMMENDED ACTION : Adopt Resolution No. 2002-190 revising Council Policy #61 (Grad Nite Contribution) to increase the contribution amount to $7,100, which is to be distributed on a proportionate basis to Carlsbad High School, San Marcos High School, La Costa Canyon High School and San Dieguito High School Academy. (Exhibit 2) ITEM EXPLANATION : On January 12, 1999 City Council approved Council Policy #61, Grad Nite-Reauest for City Contributions to Grad Nite Activities, appropriating $5,000 to be distributed on an equitable basis to Grad Nite Committees that serve Carlsbad high school seniors. The policy stipulates that the donation amount be reviewed every three years to consider increasing the City's contribution in support of Grad Nite activities. Over the past three years the number of Carlsbad resident seniors has increased from 571 to 812, which represents a 42% increase. Other options include increasing the fund by $1,000 andlor leaving the contribution at $5,000. Calculations for each option outlining what the 1999 contribution was and what the contribution amounts would be for each option is listed below. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, does hereby appropriate an additional .$2100 in funds for Grad Nite Activity donations !%om the City Council FY 01!02 Contingency Account and be transferred to the Community Contributions account ifOO14510-8540 and does hereby revise Council Policy #61 thereby increasing the donation amount to a total of $7100, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part thereof. STATEMENT OF POLICY The Carlsbad City Council has established a methodology of distribution for annual donations of cash and/or in-kind services not to exceed a total value of $7100. The maximum donation will be reviewed every three (3) years by the City Council.
