RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2002-245 approving an out-of-state travel request from the police
department to attend a training conference on range development and operation. The course
will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, October 7-12, 2002.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The purpose of the training is to provide highly specialized training on range development and
operation to the department's range coordinator. This is a citywide goal for 2002-03, Goal No.
250. This conference will provide up-to-date information on range operation, environmental
concerns, start-up costs, sound, safety, and much more.
FISCAL IMPACT:
When the FY 2002-03 police budget was developed, staff was not aware of this conference.
The cost to attend the conference for one person is approximately $600. Funds are available in
the Police Department budget to cover all estimated costs.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2002-245 authorizing out-of-state travel for the police department's
range coordinator to attend a six-day conference on range development. The conference
will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, October 7-12, 2002.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING
MENT’S RANGE COORDINATOR TO ATTEND A
OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL FOR THE POLICE DEPART-
SIX-DAY RANGE DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
IN LAS VEGAS. NEVADA, OCTOBER 7-12.2002.
WHEREAS, the City Council concurs that it is in the public interest to authorize out-
of-state travel for the Police Department Range Coordinator to attend a conference on range
development; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that this is a city-wide goal, and
attendance at this conference will help achieve this goal: and
WHEREAS, funds are available in the FY 2002-03 Police Department budget for
the out-of-state travel.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That out-of-state travel is hereby authorized in accordance with City policy for the
police department range coordinator to attend a course on range development to be held in
Las Vegas, Nevada, October 7-12,2002
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of
the City of Carlsbad, California, held on the 13th day of AUGUST , 2002, by the
following vote, to wit:
