TITLE:
APPROVAL OF PURCHASE OF FORD RANGER
PICKUP TRUCKS
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. .xxm”E3 approving the purchase of seven Ford Ranger pickup trucks from
Ken Grody Ford.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Funds are appropriated in the 2002-2003 fiscal year budget for the purchase of seven Ford Ranger
pickup trucks to replace vehicles currently in the fleet that have exceeded the age and mileage
requirements of the City’s vehicle replacement program. As part of the continuing review of the current
vehicle fleet, four of the vehicles have been downsized from full size trucks to these compact pickups.
In accordance with Section 3.28.050 of the Municipal Code, Notice to Bidders was mailed to fifteen
vendors. On March 18, 2003 five responses were received, opened, witnessed and recorded. In
accordance with the Municipal Code, a best value evaluation was completed. The bids were
evaluated by staff for cost, delivery schedule, conformance to specifications and any unspecified
value-added offerings. The bid submitted by Ken Grody Ford was determined to be the best value.
The bid was also the lowest cost for the vehicles.
Total cost for the seven trucks is $104,637.10 including sales tax.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Unencumbered funds are available in the Vehicle Replacement Capital Outlay Account for the
purchase of the vehicles.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE
OF SEVEN FORD RANGER PICKUP TRUCKS
WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad wishes to purchase seven Ford Ranger pickup trucks; and
WHEREAS, Section 3.28.050 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code provides that materials and
services costing over thirty thousand dollars must be obtained through formal bidding procedures;
and
WHEREAS, bid proposals were submitted by five vendors and the bid of Ken Grody Ford
was determined to be the best value to the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad as
follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the Purchasing Officer is hereby authorized and directed to issue a purchase order
to Ken Grody Ford, 5555 Paseo del Norte, Carlsbad, CA 92008 in the amount of
$104,637.10 including sales tax.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City
of Carlsbad held on the 1st day of APRIL ,2003, by the following vote, to wit:
