ITEM EXPLANATION:
For the past several years the County of San Diego has provided the City of Carlsbad with
Vector Surveillance and Control. As has been previously transmitted to Council, the
movement of the West Nile Virus is projected to impact California over the next several
years. In response to this, the County has significantly ramped up their activity and would
like to share their efforts and information with the City Council. As part of the County’s
presentation, they will explain their intention of conducting an aerial larvacide application in
the Buena Vista Lagoon to help manage and reduce the mosquito population, which is the
primary transmitter of the West Nile Virus.
