BACKGROUND
The Recreation Aide, Recreation Leader, Sr. Recreation Leader, Kitchen Aide, Van
Driver, Arts Aide, Administrative Aidehtem and Office Aide classifications have not
had the maximums of their salary ranges adjusted since January 2001. The proposed
adjustments will bring the maximums of these salary ranges in line with the market and
provide departments more flexibility to attract and retain these employees. Each of these
classifications, with the exception of Office Aide, is proposed to increase an additional
$1 .OO per hour. The proposed increase for Office Aide is an additional $2.00 per hour.
Overall, the salary market for Aquatics jobs has remained stable, except for Lifeguard.
The Recreation Department has requested moving the minimum salaries of Lifeguard,
Instructor Lifeguard and Sr. Instructor Lifeguard to reflect current pay practices. The
Lifeguard maximum salary is also recommended to be adjusted upward $SO to $12.50
per hour.
The proposed changes to the Library Aide, Library Clerk , Library Technician and
Reference Librarian salary ranges will bring the minimum of these salary ranges in line
with the local library market and provide the Library more flexibility to attract and retain
these employees.
The proposed changes will affect the salaries of 86 of the 5 18 active hourly employees.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of the proposed changes is approximately $67,000 annually. There is no fiscal
impact, as the departments will fund the increases with their existing block budgets.
