HD CITYAIT’!p& CITYMGR- RECOMMENDED ACTION: City Council Adopt Resolution No. 2003-135 accepting a donation of $20,000 from the Carlsbad Arts Associates and authorizing appropriation of these funds. ITEM EXPLANATION: Over the past 17 years, the City of Carlsbad has presented the TGIF Jazz in the Parks program. The Carlsbad Arts Associates, the non-profit support organization of the City’s Cultural Arts Office, has raised funds to support these concerts since 1990. During the 2002 concerts, the Arts Associates raised $20,000, which it is donating to the City. A portion of these funds, $1 5,000, will be used to offset costs incurred by the City at the 2003 concert program, for support services such as shuttle buses for concert attendees, porta-toilets and part-time staff. The remaining $5,000 will be used for the “Three Part Art” education program presented at the William D. Cannon Gallery to 3rd and 4” graders who attend schools located in the City of Carlsbad. FISCAL IMPACT The costs of providing support services for the concert series varies with each concert but will not exceed $15,000. The Arts Office requests the Finance Director be authorized to appropriate the $1 5,000 into the Cultural Arts Office Special Events account. The remaining $5,000 will provide curriculum that relates to one exhibition in the Cannon Art Gallery for the “Three Part Art” program. Resolution No. 2003-135 DEPARTMENT CONTACT: Peter Gordon (760-434-2920) www.pgord@ci.carlsbad.ca.us 1 I 1 c L A C ., t 7 E s 1c 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 RESOLUTION NO. 2003-135 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A DONATION FROM THE CARLSBAD ARTS ASSOCIATES AND APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad has been presenting TGIF Jazz in the parks concerts for 17 years; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the Carlsbad Arts Associates is to support the programs of the City's Cultural Arts Office; and WHEREAS, the Arts Associates have raised funds to support the jazz concerts since 1990 and raised $20,000 over the 2002 series; and WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Arts Associates is donating $1 5,000 to assist with the 2003 summer jazz concert series and $5,000 to offset costs incurred with the "Three Part Art" program; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That the donation of $20,000 from the Carlsbad Arts Associates is accepted. 3. That the Finance Director is hereby authorized to appropriate the $15,000 donation into the Cultural Arts Special Events account and $5,000 into the Cultural Arts Community Arts Support account.
