CITY ATTY. @ ICITY MGR. %%L.- ON COMPENSATION I RECOMMENDED ACTION: Introduce Ord ina nce No. NS-666 Municipal Code to adjust the compensation of the City Clerk . amending section 2.08.030 of the Carlsbad ITEM EXPLANATION: Government Code section 36517 provides that the City Clerk shall receive a compensation fixed by ordinance or resolution. The City adjusted the City Clerks compensation in the years of 1968, 1973, 1980, 1983, 1985, 1989, 1997 and 2001. The City Clerk’s current compensation is $800 per month. Since the last adjustment in compensation for the Office of the City Clerk, the volume of documents processed through that office has increased dramatically and it is appropriate to adjust the compensation of the office to reflect this increase. The proposed ordinance adjusts the City Clerks compensation by $80 per month. The salary adjustment would become effective 30 days after adoption of the ordinance and be retroactive to January 1, 2003. FISCAL IMPACT: The fiscal impact resulting from this action will be an increase in compensation of the City Clerk of $80 per month for a total annual fiscal impact of $960. EXHIBITS: 1. NS-666 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA AMENDING SECTION 2.08.030 OF THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL CODE TO ADJUST THE COMPENSATION OF THE CITY CLERK The City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California does ordain as follows: SECTION I: That section 2.08.030 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code is amended to read as follows: “2.08.030 Compensation of the Citv Clerk. (a) Effective January 1, 2003, the compensation of the City Clerk is fixed (b) In addition, the City Clerk shall receive an automobile allowance as at the sum of $880 (eight hundred eighty dollars) per month, payable bi-weekly. established by resolution of the City Council.” EFFECTIVE DATE: This ordinance shall be effective thirty days after its adoption, and the City Clerk shall certify the adoption of this ordinance and cause it to be published at least once in a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Carlsbad within fifteen days after its adoption.
