TO THE LIBRARY’S FRIENDS DONATIONS FUND, AND
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2003-186 accepting a donation of $55,500 from the Friends of the
Carlsbad Library, appropriating the funds to the Library’s Friends Donations Fund,
acknowledging an additional pledge in support of programs valued at $55,230 and directing
an appropriate letters of thanks.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $55,500 to the Library for FY 2003-2004.
The donated funds will be used for the following purposes:
Audio Books 10,000
Portable stage for Georgina Cole Library 500
Redesign & reconstruction of Childrens’ Garden at 45,000
Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane
$ 55,500
The donation is to be appropriated to the Library’s Friends Donations Fund.
In addition to the above donation, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have pledged to fund
the following programs and activities valued at $55,230:
The Summer Reading Program for 2004
Various Children and Young Adult Programs from September 2003 - May 2004
The Annual Multi-Cultural Program
Author Programs

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A DONATION OF
$55,500 FROM THE FRIENDS OF THE CARLSBAD
LIBRARY TO THE CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY,
APPROPRIATING DONATION TO THE LIBRARY’S
FRIENDS DONATIONS FUND, AND ACKNOWLEDGING
PLEDGE OF AN ADDITIONAL $55,230 IN SUPPORT OF
VARIOUS LIBRARY PROGRAMS
WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $55,500 to
the library; and
WHEREAS, the library and the Friends have agreed that this donation will
be used to purchase audio books, a portable stage for the Georgina Cole Library
Community Room; and the redesign and reconstruction of the Childrens’ Garden
area at the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane; and
WHEREAS, the Friends have pledged support of the Summer Reading
Program, various Children and Young Adult Programs, the Annual Multi-Cultural
Program and various author programs for FY2003-2004, at a value of $55,230.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:

That the above recitations are true and correct.
That the City Council accepts the gift of $55,500 from the Friends
of the Library on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, and hereby appropriates these
funds to the Library’s Friends Donations Fund.

3. That the City Council acknowledges the additional pledge of
support from the Friends of the Library for $55,230 worth of library programs.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City
Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, held on the 15th day of
JULY , 2003, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Finnila, Kulchin, Hall, Packard
