APPROVAL OF GRANT APPLICATION
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
City Council Adopt Resolution No. 2004-007 approving an application to the Institute
of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) for a "Museums for America" grant in the amount of $15,000.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Arts Office is requesting Council approval to apply for a new grant being offered this year by the
Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) called "Museums for America."
The grant is designed to support a wide range of activities that help museums achieve their
institutional missions while demonstrating public value. In this case, "museums" are broadly defined.
The William D. Cannon Art Gallery program would be eligible to receive this funding.
Staff will submit a proposal related to the City's Three-Part-Art outreach program in the category of
"supporting lifelong learning." The costs for the 3 Three-Part-Art programs the City currently offers to
Carlsbad schoolchildren are approximately $30,000. The Arts Office is requesting a grant of $1 5,000
from the IMLS. The grant must be matched on a 1 :I basis with non-federal resources. No new funds
Are required for the match, and the Arts Office will use existing General Fund monies to meet the
match requirement.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact at this time. No new funds are required. Existing funds in the Arts Office's
General Fund will supply the required match.

A RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION NO. 2004-007
F THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, APPROVING A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE INSTITUTE
OF MUSEUM AND LIBRARY SERVICES (IMLS) CALLED "MUSEUMS FOR
AMERICA" IN THE AMOUNT OF $1 5,000.
WHEREAS, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is offering a
new grant this year called "Museums for America"; and
WHEREAS, the William D. Cannon Art Gallery is eligible to receive such a grant,
if awarded; and
WHEREAS, the Arts Office will submit a proposal in the amount of $1 5,000 to fund the
City's Three-Part-Art outreach program, currently offered to Carlsbad schoolchildren; and
WHEREAS, the IMLS grant is a 1:l matching grant that requires no new funding; and
WHEREAS, the Arts Office will use existing General Fund monies to meet the
IMLS match requirement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, as
follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the application to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) for a
"Museums for America" for a grant in the amount of $15,000 is hereby approved.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED, at a regular meeting of the City Council
,2004, by the of the City of Carlsbad, California, held on the 13thday of January
following vote, to wit:
