RECREATION TITLE : ACCEPTANCE OF DONATIONS FOR YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAMS DEPT. . +C CITY AT@ CITY MGR.~ RECOMMENDED ACTION : Adopt Resolution No. 2004-019 North America valued at $1890 and donations of $500 each from Hoehn Honda and ToyotdLexus Carl s bad. accepting a donation of jerseys and soccer balls from Puma ITEM EXPLANATION : On October 23, 2003, the City received a donation of sports equipment and apparel for use in the Recreation Department’s “Pee-Wee Soccer“ Program during Spring 2004. Puma North America has provided jerseys and soccer balls for participants in this program. The following items were received by the Recreation DepartmenWouth Sports Division 1. 80 youth soccer jerseys 2. 30 soccer balls The retail value of the above equipment is $1890. In addition to the above donation, the Youth Sports Division received cash donations from Hoehn Honda and Toyota/Lexus Carlsbad in the amount of $500 each. These funds will help provide awards for all participants in the Youth Sports Program, assist in the purchasing of new uniforms for participants, and cover expenses associated with the certification of parents in the Department Sportsmanship Program, Parents Association for Youth Sports (PAYS). Upon receipt of this donation on December 15, 2003, the Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously recommended acceptance by the City Council. Each $500 donation will be deposited into the Recreation Trust Fund and the jerseys and soccer balls will be utilized throughout the Spring 2004 Pee-Wee Soccer League. A letter of appreciation has been sent on behalf of the Recreation Department. The Recreation Department wishes to gratefully acknowledge the efforts of Puma North America in the donation of the above items, and the generosity of Hoehn Honda and ToyotdLexus Carlsbad with their cash donations. FISCAL IMPACT: The $500 received from Toyota/Lexus Carlsbad, and the $500 received from Hoehn Honda have been deposited into the Recreation Trust Fund (acct.# 149-4503-5651 ) for utilization in support of youth sports. 1. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, wishes to accept these donations and acknowledge the generosity and support of Puma North America , Hoehn Honda and Toyota/Lexus Carlsbad.. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That the City does hereby accept the donation of jerseys and soccer balls from Puma North America totaling a value of $1890. 3. That the City does hereby accept the donation of $500 each from Hoehn Honda and Toyota/Lexus Carlsbad for a total of $1000.
