RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Ordinance No. NS-689 amending the compensation of the Mayor and Members of
the City Council.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Ordinance No. NS-689 was introduced and first read at the City Council meeting held on
January 20, 2004. The second reading allows the City Council to adopt the ordinance,
which would then become effective in thirty days. The City Clerk will have the ordinance
published within fifteen days, if adopted.

ORDINANCE NO. NS-689
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA AMENDING TITLE 2,
CHAPTER 2.04 OF THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL CODE
BY THE AMENDMENT OF SECTION 2.04.010 TO
INCREASE THE COMPENSATION OF THE MAYOR AND
MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
The City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California does ordain as follows:
SECTION I: That section 2.04.010 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code is
amended to read as follows:
“2.04.01 0 Compensation.
(I) Each member of the City Council shall receive as salary the sum of six hundred dollars ($600) per month as authorized by Section 36516 of the
Government Code, for cities over seventy five thousand and up to and including one
hundred fifty thousand in population plus the sum of six hundred six dollars ($606) per
month, which represents the total of increases of five percent (5%) per year for each
calendar year from the operative date of the last adjustment of salary, for a total of one
thousand two hundred six dollars ($1,206) per month payable at the same time and in
the same manner as salaries are paid to other officers and employees of the City.
(2) The salaries established by this section are exclusive of any amounts
payable to each member of the City Council as reimbursement for actual and
necessary expenses incurred in the performance of official duties for the City.
(3) This section shall become operative only on and after the date upon
which one or more members of the City Council become eligible pursuant to Section
36516.5 of the Government Code for a salary increase by virtue of beginning a new
term of office following adoption of this section.”
EFFECTIVE DATE: This ordinance shall be effective thirty days after its
adoption, and the City Clerk shall certify the adoption of this ordinance and cause it to
be published at least once in a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Carlsbad
within fifteen days after its adoption.
