> RE: 2004/05 Public Library Staff Education Program
> I'm pleased to announce the opening of the application cycle for the
> 2004/05 Public Library Staff Education Program. The program, which was
> developed by a team of public library directors and staff in response to
> the results of a survey conducted in 1998, seeks to address the need for
> more public librarians available to serve the state's children and young
> adults, underserved, geographically isolated and other diverse
> communities. A copy of the program guidelines and applications are
> attached as a WORD document, with a print copy in the mail to you. The
> application materials will also be available on our website
> (www.library.ca.gov) shortly. Please note that there are now two separate
> student applications forms. To make the process less burdensome for past
> recipients who are continuing their studies, we have developed a shorter
> application form for these individuals.
> We do expect a record high number of applicants who are continuing
> students (over 100) in the 2004105 program. Therefore the demand for
> funding in 2004/05 will far exceed what is available to the program. So
> the following change has been made to the program.
> Starting with the 2004/05 program, all applicants will be categorized into
> three categories. Priority consideration for funding will be as follows:
> Priority 1 : Past program recipients who are continuing their studies
> toward
> their Master's degree
>
> library
> school courses
>
> school but >
> Due to the predicted high number of applicants in priority category one,
z it's possible there might be very limited or no funding left available for
> applicants in the subsequent two categories. And we anticipate no funding
> will be available for students who have applied to library school but who
> have not yet been accepted.
> If you have any questions regarding the program changes, or about the new
> application packet, please contact Kathy Low, Library Programs Consultant
> at (916) 653-6822 or by e-mail at klow@library.ca.gov.
